An investigation has been launched into the sabotage of the railway control system on the Athens-Thessaloniki line, near Platý, Imathia. The head of the Thessaloniki Court of Appeals, Leonidas Nikopoulos, ordered the investigation into felony offenses.
The Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) is also conducting an ex officio investigation, with the participation of the Criminal Investigation Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece. Crews are working to repair the damage. According to the maintenance supervisor, the cables were cut with a grinder. A second sabotage attempt was also reported in the area, using similar methods.
Safety protocols have been implemented, and traffic is being conducted with voice commands. The Deputy Minister of Transport, Konstantinos Kyranakis, linked the incident to the anniversary of the Tempi tragedy, questioning the intentions of the perpetrators.
