Appeals Court Sentences in OPEKEPE Illegal Subsidies Case

The Athens Single-Member Appeals Court for Felonies imposed prison sentences ranging from 9 to 15 months, suspended for three years, on seven defendants for illegal subsidies from OPEKEPE in the Grammos area.
The court ordered the transmittal of the trial records and the decision to the European Prosecutor to investigate the commission of breach of trust by OPEKEPE executives, as well as the act of forgery regarding a will submitted to the court.
The Appeals Court accepted only the mitigating circumstance of prior lawful life for five defendants, adopting the proposal of prosecutor Kalliopi Ntayianta. It rejected the mitigating circumstance of sincere remorse, as the return of the funds occurred after the service of individual notices and the exhaustion of legal remedies.
