Five Roma Charged with Extortion in Tiryntha

A case file has been opened against five Roma individuals for extortion and threats against a man, by officers of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime. According to the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.), the perpetrators demanded 10,000 euros from the victim because he divorced the sister of one of the perpetrators.
The incident occurred on July 19th, when three men visited the victim's home and, under the pretext of the divorce, attempted to force him to pay the sum of 10,000 euros, threatening his physical safety and that of his family. They also threatened to destroy his shops.
Two days earlier, the perpetrators had posted a video on TikTok with threats against the victim. This video was handed over to the police and helped in their identification.
One of the perpetrators is imprisoned in the Tiryntha Agricultural Prison and was on leave during the commission of the offenses.
Although the victim initially retracted his statements, the EL.AS. continued the investigation.
Three of those involved are related and have a heavy criminal record, with charges of resistance, disobedience, criminal organization, extortion, bodily harm, abduction, threats, and more.
