Chile: Four Dead in Mine Collapse – One Missing

Four workers have died in a tunnel collapse at El Teniente, the world's largest copper mine in Chile. One worker remains missing.
The collapse occurred at a depth of 1,200 meters on Thursday and is attributed to seismic activity, the origin of which is under investigation.
El Teniente has 4,500 kilometers of tunnels and is the largest underground copper deposit on the planet. This is the most serious accident at the mine in three decades.
Chile's metallurgical industry is considered one of the safest in the world, with a mortality rate of 0.02% in 2024, according to the country's National Geology and Mining Service.
