Sea Turtle 'Kastello' Travels from Greece to Spain

A sea turtle named Kastello, after receiving care in Greece, was found in Spain, having traveled over 1,500 kilometers in a decade.
In 2014, Kastello, a male sea turtle, was found with a serious head injury and received treatment from 'Archelon', a sea turtle rescue center. After recovering, it was released in 2015 with a metal tag.
In December 2025, it was located in the Balearic Sea with a hook in its mouth and an old wound. It was transferred to a care center in Barcelona, where experts recognized the 'Archelon' tag and contacted their Greek colleagues.
Kastello's journey highlights the ability of sea turtles to survive and make long journeys in the Mediterranean.
