St. Papastavrou: Realistic Environmental Goals Needed

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, participated in the extraordinary Council of Environment and Energy Ministers of the European Union in Brussels.

The subject of discussion was the amendment of the European climate legislation to establish a binding intermediate climate target for 2040.

Upon his arrival, Mr. Papastavrou stated that Greece supports ambitious goals for environmental protection, but these must be realistic, taking into account the economic and social conditions of each country, the competitiveness of businesses, and the difficulties faced by citizens.

Mr. Papastavrou emphasized the need for a review clause and flexibilities to ensure a sustainable future.
