Rare Snowfall Covers Cities in Eastern Australia

Cities in eastern Australia have been covered by a rare layer of snow, with snowfall exceeding 50 centimeters. The extreme weather events caused floods and power outages.
More than 100 vehicles were trapped by the snow. The New South Wales Emergency Service responded to more than 1,455 incidents and issued flood warnings. Tens of thousands of homes were left without power.
The most severe snowfall in the last 20 years was recorded in the northwestern parts of the state of New England, while the state of Queensland experienced its first snowfall in a decade, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
