Two sperm whales were recorded performing an impressive deep dive in the trench of Ikaria, as announced by the environmental organization "Archipelagos".

The incident was recorded by the scientific crew of the vessel "Triton", as part of a research on marine mammals in the Aegean Sea.

Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) are the largest species of toothed whale, reaching 16-18 meters in length and weighing up to 50 tons. The Ikaria trench, with a depth of 1,400 meters, supports significant biodiversity and hosts seven species of marine mammals.

The results of the research will be published soon, according to the scientists of Archipelagos.
