7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Between Borneo and Malaysia

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the northern coast of Borneo in the early hours of Monday (local time). According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake had a focal depth of 620 kilometers.
The epicenter was located less than 100 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah province in Malaysia. The US Tsunami Warning Center announced that there is no tsunami threat.
