Radioactive Wasp Nest Found at US Nuclear Facility

A wasp nest with radiation levels ten times above the permissible limits has been discovered at a former military nuclear facility in the United States, according to a report by the US Department of Energy.
The finding was made at the Savannah River Site, near Aiken, South Carolina, where plutonium was produced for nuclear warheads during the Cold War. The wasp nest was found on a pole near tanks containing millions of gallons of liquid radioactive waste.
Authorities sprayed the nest to exterminate the wasps and removed it using radiological waste management procedures. No leaks were reported, and there was no impact on the environment or the public.
The radioactivity is attributed to remnants from the time the facility produced components for nuclear weapons. Environmental organizations have expressed concerns about the handling of the incident.
