Fires in Steni and Pelathousa: Alert in Paphos

A 'fiery' Sunday was experienced in Paphos with the firefighting mechanism fully mobilized due to two fires. The first fire broke out in the morning in the Steni community and was quickly dealt with, limited to a few hectares.

The afternoon fire in Pelathousa triggered an alarm, with strong forces operating for hours. The fire broke out in dry grass and wild vegetation northwest of the community. The extinguishing operation involved 11 fire trucks from the Forest Department, two bulldozers, four vehicles from the Fire Service and five aircraft. The fire was brought under control before the aircraft had to withdraw due to darkness. Ground forces remain for full extinguishing and dealing with flare-ups.
