Perseids 2025: Up to 75 Meteors Per Hour – Viewing Tips

Troodos Observatory announced that the peak of the Perseids meteor shower for 2025 is expected on the night of August 12 to 13, with up to 50–75 meteors per hour.
Observation will be more difficult due to the bright Moon in a waning gibbous phase with 92% illumination. The shower lasts from July 17 to August 23, peaking on August 12-13.
The Perseids are created by particles from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, entering the atmosphere at 59 km/second and burning at 85-100 km altitude, creating the 'shooting stars'. Comet Swift-Tuttle is expected to return in 2126.
For better viewing, a dark location away from city lights and observation after midnight is recommended.
