Over 55,000 Acres Burned in Kythira, Evia, Attica, and Elsewhere

Over 55,000 acres have been reduced to ashes in wildfires that broke out on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in various regions of Greece, including Kythira, Evia, Attica, Chania, and Messinia. This is according to data and maps from the Copernicus Emergency Management Service/Mapping.

The most extensive burned areas are located in Kythira, where 26,880 acres of burned land were recorded. In Evia, in the Pissonas area, 12,811 acres were burned. In Chania, the fire consumed 7,078 acres, while in Messinia, the burned area amounts to 6,502 acres. In Attica, the fires destroyed 2,269 acres.

It is noted that the resurgence of the fire in Kythira may change the final estimate for the burned areas in the region.

In the fire that broke out on July 22, 2025, in Feneos, Corinthia, the affected area amounts to 15,789 acres, of which approximately 8,800 acres are Kefalonian Fir forest.
