Over 2 Million Evacuated in Pakistan Due to Floods

More than 2 million people have been evacuated from the Punjab province of Pakistan due to floods. Another 150,000 people have evacuated the Sindh province, according to Inam Haider Malik.
Monsoon rains have killed over 900 people across the country since late June. Climate change is exacerbating the floods, while there is criticism of a lack of government investment in disaster management.
The floods have destroyed farms and homes, affecting 40% of the population living below the poverty line. Nine people died when a rescue boat capsized on the Indus River.
The UN has allocated $5 million to address the floods, while the US has sent disaster relief personnel. Pakistani authorities have declared a climate emergency, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a 300-day plan to address climate change.
