The Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus (OPOK) has expressed strong concerns regarding the National Guard's exercise within the Akamas National Park. The announcement, publicized by the Municipality of Akamas, stated that military exercises were scheduled for Thursday, April 16, 2026.

In a statement, OPOK mentions that such actions degrade the natural environment and disrupt wildlife, as the area is part of the Natura 2000 network. OPOK calls on the State to ensure that this activity does not set a precedent and to terminate any incompatible activity that degrades the National Park.

Furthermore, it requests the immediate issuance of Protection Decrees for the Natura 2000 areas, prioritizing the Akamas peninsula.
