Dead Bear Found in Ampelokipoi, Kastoria – Poisoning Suspected

A large bear was found dead in a cultivated area in Ampelokipoi, Kastoria, near the lake. Members of the Forest Service and the environmental organization "Kallisto" are investigating the possibility of poisoning.

The animal, aged 10 years and weighing 250 kg, had no external injuries. The possibility of it having consumed poisoned bait is being examined.

The Special Unit for the Detection of Poisoned Baits (EMADD) of the MDDPP of Central Macedonia of OFYPEKA has been informed and will conduct a survey in the area. The dead animal was transferred to the Veterinary Service of Kastoria for a partial necropsy.

"Kallisto" points out that the use of poisoned baits is illegal and has serious consequences for the environment and public health. In recent days, there has been an increased presence of bears near residential areas in the PE of Kastoria.
