New Zealand: Landslide Recovery Operation Halted

New Zealand authorities have suspended the recovery operation for victims of the landslide that struck a campsite on the North Island. The decision was made due to ground instability and cracks observed in the area.
Six people, including two teenagers, are presumed dead after the landslide occurred on Thursday at Mount Maunganui, caused by heavy rainfall. Human remains were found on Saturday and sent for identification.
Police Chief Tim Anderson stated that the operation was suspended for the safety of those involved. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
Another landslide on Thursday in Papamoa resulted in the death of an elderly woman and her grandson, according to APE MPE.
