A large petrified tree trunk with its branches, preserved in Lesbos, is generating global interest. The tree was covered by volcanic materials 18 million years ago.

The trunk was discovered in 2020 during excavation work for road construction. This week, scientists from the Natural History Museum of the Lesbos Petrified Forest began work to protect and showcase it.

This is a rare find, as it is the first time a petrified tree has been found with its branches intact.
