Water scarcity poses a significant challenge for Greece, affecting agricultural production, tourism, and public health. The Mornos reservoir, a key supplier for Attica, is at a 15-year low.

According to data from EYDAP, water reserves have decreased by 64% compared to the average for the period 2010-2024, reaching 192.8 million cubic meters. Aerial drone footage captures the significant water retreat around the lake.

Kostas Lagouvardos, Research Director at the National Observatory of Athens, confirms the critical situation, emphasizing the lack of rainfall and snowfall. The lake's area has decreased to less than 9 square kilometers, from the normal 14 sq km.

The Athens Observatory has created the "Mornos Observatory" on meteo.gr to monitor the situation and raise public awareness.

EYDAP data (2010-2025) demonstrate the dramatic decrease in water reserves in the Mornos reservoir.
