At least 30 people have died in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Haiti due to Hurricane Melissa. In Haiti, at least 20 people, including 10 children, died after a river overflowed.

Hurricane Melissa, according to analysts, is the strongest to make landfall in the last 90 years. It hit Jamaica and Cuba, causing significant damage. In Jamaica, a UN official described the damage as at an 'unprecedented level,' with extensive damage to infrastructure and property.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US is in contact with the affected governments and is sending rescue teams and supplies.
