Cyprus: Third in EU for Greenhouse Gas Emission Increase

Cyprus recorded the third-highest increase in greenhouse gas emissions in the EU during the first quarter of 2025, according to Eurostat. Emissions rose by 8.3% compared to the same quarter of 2024.
Overall, the EU economy produced 900 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2-eq), an increase of 3.4%. The EU's GDP increased by 1.2% during the same period.
The sectors with the largest increases across Europe were the production and supply of electricity, natural gas, steam and air conditioning (13.6%) and households (5.6%).
The largest emission reductions were recorded in Malta (-6.2%), Finland (-4.4%) and Denmark (-4.3%).
Twenty EU countries increased their emissions, while only 7 reduced them.
