Share on:

At least 22 people have died in Colombia in the last twelve days due to heavy rains and floods. Thousands of homes have been flooded, mainly in the departments of Córdoba and Sucre, where 14 deaths and 9,000 flooded households were reported.

Residents are trying to salvage their belongings by any means, while the water in some areas reaches up to people's waists. 43-year-old Enid Gómez from Montería, the capital of Córdoba, reports that they have lost everything and are worried about the future. In Montería, the number of affected people has reached 150,000.

A cold front from North America increased rainfall by 64% in January, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (IDEAM), which links the phenomenon to the climate crisis.
