Colombia: Heavy Rains and Floods – At Least 22 Dead

At least 22 people have died in Colombia in the last twelve days due to heavy rains and floods. Thousands of households have been affected, with the regions of Córdoba and Sucre reporting 14 deaths and at least 9,000 flooded homes.
According to APE-MPE, residents are trying to salvage their belongings, while many report losing everything except the clothes they are wearing. 43-year-old Enid Gómez, from Monteria, stated that 150,000 people have been affected in her area.
Authorities had announced 13 deaths last week due to the rainfall. The National Institute of Meteorology (IDEAM) reports that rainfall has increased by 64% in January, due to a cold front and in the context of the climate crisis.
