Global warming, caused by the release of greenhouse gases, threatens human fertility, according to new scientific data.

Professor Sofia Kalantaridou of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in statements to APE-MPE, highlighted the direct impact of the climate crisis on reproductive health.

The increase in temperature negatively affects sperm production in men, reducing sperm count and motility. Ms. Kalantaridou noted that fertility decline due to temperature increase can be inherited in future generations.

Additionally, exposure to heat stress and environmental pollutants is linked to ovulation disorders and pregnancy problems in women.

Addressing the climate crisis is essential for demographic survival, as declining fertility contributes to low birth rates.
