Kyrgyzstan: Hopes Fade for Russian Climber Stranded on Victory Peak

Hopes are fading for Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsyna, who has been stranded for 12 days on a mountain on the Kyrgyzstan-China border, after suffering a serious injury on August 12. Rescue efforts have been suspended due to extreme weather conditions.
A 49-year-old Italian climber, Luca Sinigaglia, died attempting to reach her on August 15. His body has not been recovered due to the bad weather. Nagovitsyna was injured while descending from the summit of Victory Peak, breaking her leg.
Mountaineering teams managed to locate her and provide her with supplies, but the adverse conditions did not allow for her removal. She was last spotted on August 19 via drone. The search has been suspended due to heavy snowfall.
Victory Peak is considered an extremely difficult mountain to climb due to the extreme weather conditions and short climbing season.
