A dramatic decline in the flamingo population at Akrotiri Salt Lake was reported to the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment. While numbers reached 13,000 in previous years, only 47 have been recorded this year.

The Game and Fauna Service reported the inflow of poor-quality water and pressures from residential development. Nikos Kasinis emphasized the collapse of populations.

The Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, spoke of lawlessness and the lack of a sewerage network in Asomatos and Akrotiri. Sources of sewage ending up in the Lady’s Mile area were identified.

Members of parliament expressed dissatisfaction with the delays, while the Environment Committee warned of irreversible effects on health and biodiversity.

Reference was also made to the condition of Lake Makria, which was described as a "swamp" due to discharges from contractors.
