K. Tsigas: Difficult Fortnight Ahead for Fires
The president of the Hellenic Fire Service Officers Association, Kostas Tsigas, warned of a difficult fortnight due to strong winds and high temperatures increasing the risk of fires.
According to Mr. Tsigas, 63 agricultural and forest fires occurred yesterday, which have been contained. He emphasized that winds and heat alone do not cause fires, but human activity is also required.
Mr. Tsigas appealed to citizens and authorities to be especially careful, avoiding the use of flame or hot work in the countryside, in order to protect lives, property and the country's forest wealth.
