A 53-year-old man died after being snatched by a crocodile in the Bulete River, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The tragic incident occurred in front of his family.

Arifudin was swimming with relatives when the crocodile bit his leg and dragged him into the water. Efforts by relatives and emergency teams to save him were unsuccessful. Eventually, a trap had to be set to recover his body.

Crocodile attacks are frequent in Indonesia, which is home to 14 species of crocodiles. Experts attribute the increase in attacks to overfishing, destruction of coastal habitats, and tin mining, which force the animals to seek food closer to human settlements.

In July, other crocodile attacks occurred in Indonesia, victimizing a student and an elderly man.
