India: 29 Dead, 250,000 Affected by Punjab Floods

At least 29 people have died and over 250,000 have been affected by devastating floods in the state of Punjab, northern India, in August.
The floods, caused by heavy monsoon rains, are described as the "worst in decades". More than 1,000 villages have been cut off.
State leader Bhagwant Mann informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the crisis. The army has evacuated thousands of residents by helicopter. Crop damage is extensive.
According to scientists, climate change and inadequate infrastructure are exacerbating the phenomena. Rainfall was 34% higher than average.
In New Delhi, the Yamuna River reached alarm levels. Dozens of victims have also been recorded in Kashmir.
