Google Doodle Celebrates Earth Day

Google is celebrating Earth Day with a special Doodle, using images from Google Earth to highlight the planet's natural beauty.

Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22nd, began in 1970 in the USA at the initiative of Senator Gaylord Nelson and marks the birth of the modern environmental movement.

Today, Earth Day is coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and is celebrated in more than 175 countries, with events aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues.

The first Earth Day in 1970 mobilized millions of Americans and is considered the beginning of the modern environmental movement.
