Geneva: No Agreement Reached on Plastic Pollution Treaty
Share on:

Delegations from 185 countries failed to reach a binding agreement to combat plastic pollution during a meeting in Geneva.

The Norwegian representative announced that there would be no agreement in Geneva. India and Uruguay emphasized the lack of consensus among negotiators.

French Environment Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher expressed disappointment at the lack of tangible results despite efforts.

Hendel Rodriguez from Colombia stated that the agreement was blocked by states that did not want an agreement, referring to oil-producing countries.

Divisions exist between countries wanting to reduce plastic production (EU, Canada, Australia) and oil-producing countries opposing commitments.
