Geneva: Free Public Transport Due to Pollution

Public transport in Geneva is temporarily free in an effort to combat increased air pollution. This initiative comes in response to high ozone levels, which, according to the World Health Organization, can cause respiratory problems and headaches.
Measurements showed that ozone concentrations exceeded safe limits, with temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius. Authorities decided to make public transport free throughout the canton, encouraging citizens to use buses, trams, trains, and boats instead of their cars.
Only cars with low emissions are allowed to circulate in the city center from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Ticket controls have been suspended until the air quality improves.
