Deadly Wildfire in Southern France: 8,000 Hectares Burned

A large wildfire is raging in southern France, in the Aude department, having burned 8,000 hectares of vegetation. One person has died, and two injuries have been reported.
The fire spread rapidly, causing the closure of the A9 highway connecting France and Spain. Approximately 1,820 firefighters are trying to bring the fire under control, while electricity has been cut off to 2,500 households.
The flames reached the village of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, near Carcassonne, where houses were burned. Holidaymakers were evacuated from campsites as a precaution, and 30 homes were evacuated.
President Emmanuel Macron stated that all government resources have been mobilized to deal with the fire.
