Seabed Cleanup Campaign at Paphos Harbour Organized by CPA

The Cyprus Ports Authority organized a seabed cleanup campaign at Paphos Harbour on Sunday. The initiative, which lasted from 09:00 to 11:00, involved divers, the Municipality of Paphos, the Department of Environment, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, the Paphos Fishermen's Association, the A.K.T.I Centre for Studies, the American University, the Atlas Academy, volunteers, students, and citizens.

Katerina Dokou, Environmental Officer of the Cyprus Ports Authority, emphasized that the campaign is being organized for the second year with the aim of collecting and recording waste, as well as raising public awareness. Angelos Onisiforou, Deputy Mayor of Paphos, highlighted the importance of cleanliness and the protection of the marine environment.

Fotis Sokratous, a representative of the divers, stated that the goal is to clean a space visited by thousands of tourists daily. Anna Tselepou, from the AKTI Centre for Studies and Research, stated that the campaign aims to remove waste, protect the marine ecosystem, and record the findings. Simoni Tourkomeni, from AUB, mentioned the participation of professors and students from the American University of Beirut. Leonidas Leonidou, president of the Paphos Coastal Fisheries Association, welcomed the campaign.
