EU: Goats as a Natural Weapon Against Wildfires

The EU is funding a pilot program in Spain using goats to reduce the risk of wildfires. The program, implemented in Catalonia, utilizes the goats' ability to clear low vegetation and other flammable materials, creating natural firebreaks.

José Antonio Rísquez, a city councilor from Mataró, stated that the program is successful and will continue. Two young shepherds, Francesc Teixidó and Pedro Alba, manage the goats, moving them to areas with a high risk of fire.

Similar programs have been implemented in Andalusia, California, and other regions, with positive results in reducing costs and protecting the environment. Research indicates that using goats is cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
