Environmental Groups Protest Over Akamas Region
Environmental and political organizations staged a protest in Agios Georgios Pegeias, expressing concerns about violations in the protected areas of Pegeia and Akamas.
The event was attended by representatives from the Green Party, the Green Youth, the Cyprus Ecological Movement, Friends of the Earth, the Center for Social Innovation, and Reset – Research and Education in Social Empowerment and Transformation. Protesters held placards with slogans such as "Save Akamas" and "Protect our natural monuments."
Andreas Evlavis, coordinator of the Green Party of the Limassol-Paphos region, stressed the need for radical decisions to protect the environment. Stamatis Papavasiliou, Secretary General of the Green Youth, stated that the situation in Akamas has "gone beyond all limits" and called for accountability.
Police were discreetly present during the event, which was followed by a cleanup campaign on Lara beach.
Charalambos Pittokopitis, President of the Paphos EOA, stated that the attendance at the 13th Carob Festival of the Municipality of Akamas is a response to those who tried to cancel the event. The festival offered traditional delicacies and Cypriot flavors.
