COP30: Agreement Approved Without Commitment to Reduce Fossil Fuels

Countries participating in the UN Climate Conference in Belém, in the Amazon, adopted the central decision of COP30 without a roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels, as requested by the Europeans and their allies.
The text, a product of compromise after two weeks of negotiations, was adopted by consensus, as none of the approximately 200 member countries of the Paris Agreement objected before the conference president, André Correa do Lago, declared the session closed.
The text calls for tripling funding to adapt developing countries over the next ten years.
Brazil has described the conference as a defining moment for global climate cooperation.
