Australia: New Bee Species Named 'Lucifer' Discovered

A new species of bee, Megachile (Hackeriapis) Lucifer, has been discovered in Western Australia and named 'Lucifer' due to its small horns.
Kit Prendergast, from Curtin University, made the discovery while studying an endangered wildflower. The bee stood out because of its unique appearance, featuring small horns on its head.
Prendergast, a fan of the Netflix series 'Lucifer', felt the name suited the bee's devilish appearance.
This is the first new bee species discovered in the area in over 20 years. Prendergast hopes the discovery will raise awareness about endangered species and the impacts of climate change and metal mining.
