The world of athletics has a new star: Sorato Shimizu from Japan. The 16-year-old athlete made an impressive showing in the 100 meters, clocking in at 10.00 seconds.

With this performance, Shimizu equaled a record considered unattainable for an athlete under 18 and broke the U18 world record, surpassing Christian Miller (USA) and Puripol Boonson (Thailand), who held the previous record with 10.06.

Born on February 8, 2009, Shimizu had already shown his talent in the Japanese national championships. His performance sets the qualification standard for the World Championships in Tokyo in September.

Shimizu stated he was shocked by his performance, emphasizing that he did not expect to reach this level so quickly, but had set a goal to break the 10-second barrier.
