UEFA Solidarity Payments: How Do Teams Benefit?
Share on:

UEFA solidarity payments are a redistribution program that provides financial support to clubs that do not directly participate in club competitions such as the Champions League and Europa League. These payments aim to strengthen competitive balance and promote football development.

A defined percentage of the gross commercial revenue from UEFA's top club competitions is allocated to solidarity payments. This amount is distributed among clubs in national leagues that do not participate in UEFA club tournaments.

Clubs must meet specific requirements related to UEFA's club licensing and financial sustainability regulations to be eligible for these funds.

UEFA recently increased solidarity payments to non-participating clubs by nearly 80%, with the annual total reaching €308 million from October 2024. This increase aims to provide significant benefits to top-tier clubs, especially in smaller leagues.
