PASP: Health risk for footballers due to extreme heat

The Pancyprian Footballers Association (PASP) has expressed concerns about the health of footballers due to high temperatures. The Association has received complaints that teams are scheduling training sessions at inappropriate times, putting athletes at risk.
According to PASP, some teams are scheduling training sessions for 15:30 and 16:00, despite warnings from the Meteorological Service about extreme temperatures. PASP has previously recorded cases of fainting and dizziness due to heat exhaustion.
PASP calls on team officials to take into account the recommendations of the Meteorological Service and take measures to protect footballers. It also highlights the need to comply with the decrees of the Department of Labor Inspection and the Code of Practice for Thermal Stress of Workers in professional leagues.
In addition, PASP mentions that the Cyprus Sports Organisation has not adopted a protocol for thermal stress, leaving amateur sports unprotected. It reminds that the "Athlete Thermal Stress Prevention Protocol" developed by PASP is available.
PASP calls on clubs to adjust training sessions to appropriate times and asks state and sports authorities to end this practice.
