The president of Independiente, Néstor Grindetti, commented on the recent bloody clashes in Argentina involving fans of Independiente and Universidad de Chile. These incidents resulted in the death of three people, according to local media.

Néstor Grindetti stated that his team had no involvement in the events and called for the punishment of Universidad.

Specifically, he mentioned: 'Independiente had nothing to do with it. There are 90 detainees who are Universidad supporters. We will defend the interests of Independiente. A punishment is appropriate for the Chilean club and a release from responsibility for Independiente.'
