Cyprus: Intensified Efforts to Eliminate Gender-Based Violence
Share on:

The Ministry of Justice announced the intensification of efforts to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence, honoring November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

This year's UN Women campaign focuses on digital violence, a rapidly emerging form of gender-based violence that threatens the health and safety of women and girls worldwide. According to the UN, approximately 1.8 billion women are exposed to digital violence due to the increased use of artificial intelligence and the lack of a legislative framework.

In view of assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, Cyprus is promoting initiatives to address the phenomenon, such as a pan-European survey and Council of the EU conclusions to strengthen the protection of girls in the digital space.

The Ministry is also promoting training for frontline professionals, awareness campaigns, and legislative changes. In addition, the 'ELPIS' application was launched by the Police, for immediate assistance to women at risk.
