The Cyprus Journalists' Union (ESK) honored Maroula Violaris Iacovidou, calling her an "impeccable example of a journalist," at an event held on Monday in Nicosia.

The President of ESK, Giorgos Fragkos, referred to the pioneering career of Mrs. Violaris Iacovidou, noting that she is the first Cypriot professional journalist, first Secretary-General of ESK and founding member of the organization in 1959, first female editor-in-chief in a Cypriot publication, and first female editor-in-chief in public broadcasting.

Mrs. Violaris Iacovidou, thanking ESK for the honor, referred to the difficulties she faced in her first steps in journalism, as well as the importance of the appreciation of women journalists in Cyprus.

She also mentioned that she was fortunate to have lived through all the important moments of Cyprus, from the struggle for liberation to the tragedy that the country is still experiencing.
