Papaelina-Plugaru Meeting on Social Welfare

A meeting between the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare of Cyprus, Ms. Klea Papaelina, and the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Moldova, Ms. Natalia Plugaru, took place on February 20, 2026.

According to a statement, they discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in social protection, with emphasis on the exchange of know-how and best practices.

The Moldovan Minister showed interest in the methods of assessing people with disabilities and the implementation of the European Child Guarantee in Cyprus.

Emphasis was placed on the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council in 2026 regarding social policy, as well as the importance of pre-school education and care.

Ms. Papaelina reiterated Cyprus' commitment to combating child poverty.
