Dog and Cat: 8 Tips for Harmonious Coexistence

Can a cat and a dog live happily under the same roof? Despite their differences, with proper preparation and respect for each animal's needs, their coexistence can be peaceful.
Breed does not determine whether animals will get along, but their character does. A dominant dog will hardly tolerate a frightened cat. Similarly, an active kitten will annoy an elderly dog. Adaptation must be done gradually and without pressure, with initial isolation and slow acquaintance.
The dog must be trained to restrain its enthusiasm, especially during the first contacts. The leash is essential in initial meetings to ensure the safety of both.
The cat needs its own space, ideally in high places, where it will feel safe. Access to the litter box should be exclusively its own.
The dog must have an outlet for its energy: daily walks, play, training exercises. Exchanging scents before the physical meeting helps the animals get acquainted. In their first contact, it is good to have positive stimuli.
Even after the initial adaptation, feed them separately. Ideally, raise them from a young age. With patience, respect and guidance, harmonious coexistence between cat and dog is possible.
