N. Christodoulides: Landmark Establishment of EKPA Branch in Cyprus

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, described the inauguration day of the branch of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) in Cyprus, in old Nicosia, as historic. EKPA, founded in 1837, has four Schools and eight Departments in Cyprus, offering courses in Greek and English in Nicosia and Larnaca.
The inauguration of the Medical School and Student Residences took place today, in the presence of the Archbishop of Cyprus, the Speaker of Parliament, Ministers, and other officials. President Christodoulides, an EKPA alumnus, emphasized that the operation of the branch contributes to the upgrading of Higher Education in Cyprus and to strengthening the goal of making the country a regional center of Knowledge, Research, and Innovation.
Archbishop George referred to EKPA's contribution to Cypriot Hellenism. The Rector of EKPA, Gerasimos Siassos, spoke of a historic step with the establishment of the branch and announced the start of operation of other departments in the future. The Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, noted the benefits for the city from the operation of the branch.
