Limassol: Issues with Business Operation Licenses
Share on:

Problems have arisen in Limassol regarding the renewal of business operation licenses due to the requirement for a certificate of suitability from the Electromechanical Service.

The Municipality of Limassol issued temporary operating licenses without the certificate, due to the inability of many businesses to obtain it. Sources from the Electromechanical Service state that they are not responsible for the delays, provided that the prescribed procedures are followed.

To issue or renew a license, a building permit, building and Fire Service suitability certificates, a lease (if applicable), a health inspection (for catering), and an Electromechanical Service certificate are required. Establishments under 50 sq.m. are exempt. According to the Municipality of Limassol, over 500 establishments are facing this problem.

The Electromechanical Service reports that the average waiting time for inspection is 2 weeks and that there are no delays, provided that an inspection by a licensed electrician has preceded and the necessary forms have been completed.
