The Cyprus Parliament approved two bills ratifying agreements with Greece for cross-kidney and lung transplants. The agreements were signed on September 19, 2024, in Athens.

The agreements formalize cooperation for organ exchange between donors and recipients, as well as lung transplants for Cypriot patients at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Greece. Organs not used in Cyprus will be offered to Greece.

A representative from the Ministry of Health stated that patients will be included in a larger database, increasing the chances of finding a donor. A similar agreement exists with Israel since 2017.

Kidney and pancreas transplants are performed in Cyprus.
