Cyprus: Elderly Fear Electricity Costs Amid Heatwave
Share on:

Fear of high electricity costs is forcing many elderly people in Cyprus to avoid using air conditioners or fans during the heatwave, according to statements by the president of the Third Age Observatory, Dimos Antoniou, to philenews. Mr. Antoniou emphasized the lack of government policy to protect the elderly, despite repeated calls for action. He stated that existing discounts on electricity prices are not enough to cover the needs of low-income pensioners, leaving them at risk of heatstroke and heat exhaustion.
